Dear Fellow Kingdom Builders:
Recently, I was reflecting on why the Lord wrote Deuteronomy 6: 4-9 – it is my belief that His purpose was to be sure that generation after generation would know the Lord’s commandments. Or to express it another way, “Biblically Literate.” To that end, God laid out a perfect plan to ensure His purposes would be accomplished. Housed within the following passage is the method by which this can be accomplished. So, hear The Lord’s admonition….
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6: 4-9
Years ago, the Lord reminded me and my wife that as parents, we have the huge privilege and responsibility to speak about and teach God’s Word to our children! God expects this…..We did this with our children from the earliest of days and down through their forming years. Today, they have their own children, our grandchildren. Now, we have that same opportunity with them as we did with our children. Not to usurp the authority of their parents, but to compliment their teaching by always speaking and teaching Biblical truths while looking for ways to take ordinary daily activities and draw Biblical principles from them. That’s Deuteronomy 6 in action because grandparents can have a huge Godly influence on grandchildren!
If ever there was a time for us to heed this Godly admonition, its today!! This action will further ensure this present generation and those that follow us, will be “Biblically Literate!”
Warmly in Christ,
