The Flemings have been with World Reach since 1993, when they first began working in Novorossiysk, Russia. They spent 9 years there building up a new church plant and assisting other churches and Bible schools. Those were good years filled with evangelism, teaching, preaching, relationships, and leadership. Due to the tightening of visa laws in 2003, which were designed to discourage missions, the Flemings were unable to return to Russia. However, they found ample ministry in Ukraine where World Reach had 2 Mobile Bible Institutes. The Flemings ministered in Ukraine in much the same capacity as in Russia. They worked in the city of Vinnitsa and later in the city of Rivne strengthening various church plants, teaching in Bible schools, discipling various church leaders, teaching English, and providing leadership.
In 2011, the Flemings were asked to help a coworker in Albania with a church plant in the city of Tirana. Since arriving in April 2011, they have been acquiring the language and learning the culture, both of which are very unique and nuanced. During the process of acclimatization, the Flemings have been helping the church plant in teaching, preaching, evangelism and leadership. Likewise, they have found opportunities to help other churches in the area. All of this helps to prepare for future ministry to impact the country of Albania, a country that 25 years ago had not one single church and to this day has had a great struggle with building up healthy churches.
The Flemings are excited about their assignment in Albania and the opportunities to minister. The language and cultures change, but the need for the message of the Gospel and the teaching of God’s Word is the same in all places.
The Flemings’ children – Olivia, Danielle, and Jonathan – have enjoyed being in Albania. They are home-schooled and assist in the ministry as partners and examples.
