In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, World Reach’s Juan and Eva Barrientos and leaders of their local church plant, La Roca Christian Church, are working together to serve the members of their church in desperate need. Peru, just as many other nations, has shut down every business that is not deemed essential by their government. Hospitals, grocery stores and a limited amount of other businesses are still working, but a vast majority of businesses are now closed. This presents an especially difficult situation for many members of La Roca Christian Church, as many lived paycheck-to-paycheck on hourly wages. These members have no source of income in this trying time, and are in desperate need of help putting food on the table.
In order to handle this crisis, Juan and Eva and the leaders of La Roca Christian Church have established a program to provide groceries to around 100 families that attend La Roca Christian Church, as well as World Reach missionaries Daniel and Sonia Perren’s church plant in Que Brada Verde, Peru, and Anibal and Rocio Carazas’ church plant in Los Angeles (Peru). As a part of this effort, the leaders of La Roca Christian Church will personally distribute groceries to the families in need, hoping to show them that church is more than just a gathering you attend on Sundays, but a family that serves one another, disciples one another, and shows Christ’s love in every-day life. Through the food they distribute, Juan, Eva, and the leadership of La Roca Christian Church are showing God’s love to so many families dealing with the immense crisis of not being able to put food on the table, giving them hope and encouragement and showing them that their church family is there for them.
